Lower Brule Farm Corporation
|
The Lower Brule Farm Corporation began 25 years ago as a revenue generating entity for the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe and has been a profitable corporation for the past 19
years. The Farm Corporation has a governing board consisting of tribal and non-tribal members.

The
Farm Corporation is one of the world's largest popcorn growers, producing both
yellow and white popcorn for several major companies. The projected gross
revenue for the Farm Corporation for 2007 is more than 3.5 million dollars.
In addition to popcorn, the Farm Corporation produces several types of
bean crops including kidney, pinto, and navy beans.

In rotation of the 7000 irrigated acres used for crop production, the Farm
Corporation has also grown soybeans, alfalfa, milo, sunflowers, and edible
sunflower products. The
Farm Corporation does not limit itself strictly
to crop production as a way of
generating revenue and has a current herd of 700 Angus mother cows and 100
bison cows. At the present time, the Farm Corporation employs a total of
ten full-time people.

The Farm Corporation has
launched a marketing outlet under the name of Lakota Foods. In late 2006,
the Tribe opened a popcorn packaging plant in Lower Brule. To view this new venture - Click Here
